Ruth C. Smith

Middletown, RI - Ruth C. Reed Smith, 83, of 600 Valley Road, Middletown, formerly of Evans Street, Newport, died Thursday, December 2, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Fleming T. Smith. Born in Philadelphia, PA on September 17, 1921, she was the daughter of the late George Albert and Carrie May Smith Reed. Mrs. Smith was a machinist for Dixon Corporation a plastic company in Bristol, RI for 2 years. She was a member of the Community Baptist Church, where she also was a choir member, and served on the usher board and the church missionary and was a trustee of Community Baptist Church and the Marion Brown Visistation. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Griots at Church, which is an African word meaning ?Old Lady? Cancer Pad Group. She was also a foster grandparent for many years. She is survived by two sons Fleming T. Smith Jr. of Newport, RI, and Earl A. Smith of Portsmouth, RI, two daughters Barbara Lopez of Newport, RI, and Linda Rollins of West Warwick, RI, twelve grandchildren twenty seven great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. She was predeceased by thirteen brothers and sisters.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2004, at 11:00AM, in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport.
