Ruth C. Sullivan

Ruth C. (Sasse) Sullivan, 99, formerly of Coggeshall Avenue, Newport, RI, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at John Clarke Nursing Center in Middletown, RI.She was the wife of the late James J. Sullivan and the daughter of the late Elizabeth (Samuels) Sasse and John P. Sasse.Born in Newport, RI, Ruth was a graduate of St. Mary's Grammar School and the class of 1933 at Rogers High School.Before she was married, Ruth worked for Skylar Parson, a noted interior designer, and in later years, was a tour guide for The Breakers and Hammersmith Farm.Ruth had the gift of gab and enjoyed reading, gardening and making tea, the English way, for anyone who came to her door.She is survived by her daughter, Susan E. Reise of Newport, RI; grandchildren, Michael J. Reise of Middletown, RI, and Andrew Reise and Karen Reise of Newport, RI; two great-grandchildren, Ava Reise and Logan Geas; and her daughter-in-law, Nancy H. Sullivan. Ruth was the mother of the late Robert J. Sullivan and the sister of the late Elizabeth White, Margaret Dunn and Jacqueline Majoros.Services will be private.In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to the John Clarke Nursing Center Activity Fund, 600 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
