Middletown, - Ruth Catherine Vollmert Laderer, 90, of 1206 Green End Avenue Middletown, died Monday, February 24, 2003 at home.She was the wife of the late George Christian Laderer. Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 15, 1912, she was the daughter of the late August and Anna Berg Vollmert.Mrs. Laderer worked as an insurance writer for New York Life from 1930 t o 1942, in 1961 she started worked in the school lunch program at Middletown High School, in 1966 she went to work in the data processing and accounting department until 1979 and from 1980 to 1988 she work as a teller at the Peoples Credit Union. Known as the Puppet Lady at Newport Hospital she made finger puppets, booties and hats for the new born babies for over 30 years as well as knitting for her family and friends. She and her husband enjoyed their flower and vegetable garden and sold their strawberries to the former Mile Post Restaurant, the Newport Cremary and the Newport Hospital. Mrs. Laderer was a member of the Middletown Senior Citizens Center, the Newport Hospital Auxillary and St. Peters Lutheran Church. She is survived by her son Bruce Paul Laderer of Riverside, RI, two daughters Regina R. VonVillas of Tiverton, RI, and Ann E Masse of Portsmouth, RI, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Catherine J. Laderer and the sister of the late Harold Vollmert.Private funeral services were held.Donations in her memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Services Of Newport Bristol Cos, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.Arrangements are by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
