Portsmouth, RI - Ruth E. Pelissier Macomber, 91, of Aquidneck Place, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of 35 Water Street, Portsmouth, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at the Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late William P. Macomber, Jr. Born in Hadley, MA, on April 13, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Ann Russell Pelissier.Mrs. Macomber grew up in Hadley, MA, and graduated from Massachusetts State College, now the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, and moved with her husband to Portsmouth in 1937 where they enjoyed a wonderful life on the water. She started her teaching career at Ann Hutchinson School in Portsmouth in 1955, where she taught for four years. The family moved to New Jersey in 1959 where she taught fourth grade in the Closter, New Jersey school system for ten years. Upon her return to Portsmouth in 1969 she taught fourth grade at the former Coggeshall School until her retirement in 1980. She touched many lives through her teaching and is fondly remembered and admired by her students and colleagues. She was a member of the Board of the Portsmouth Free Library and was an avid reader, gardener, bird watcher and swimmer. She was a resident of Aquidneck Place in Portsmouth for the past six years. She is survived by three sons, William P. Macomber III of Hampstead, NC, Richard R. Macomber of Portsmouth, RI, and Mark E. Macomber of Bethelem, CT, a sister Helen L. Pelissier of Northhampton, MA, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Louis R. Pelissier. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at 9 a.m. from the Hambly Funeral Home, ?Brick House?, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Marys Churchyard, East Main Road, Portsmouth. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 17, 2006, from 4-7 p.m. in the Hambly Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI, 02903, or to Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, 02871.
