Ruth Joseph Fischer

Fischer, Ruth Joseph, 92, of Newport RI, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2011. She was the wife of the late Leslie McAllister. Ruth is survived by her son Dr. Jeffrey Fischer and daughter-in-law Bonnie Fischer of Newport, and her daughter Julie Fischer and son-in-law Mark Taber of Providence; by her grandchildren Benjamin Wolf, Katherine Wolf Hudson, Daniel, Benjamin and Laura Fischer, Brad Miller, and Samuel Taber; and by four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Kathleen Fischer Wolf and her grandson Robert Wolf.Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Ruth was the daughter of the late Hyman and Lillian Joseph and the sister of Albert Joseph and his wife Dylene, and the late Hana Moss and Rosalyne Greenhouse. She leaves many nieces and nephews.Ruth graduated from the Ohio State University and had a long career as a versatile journalist and free-lance writer, first in Cleveland and later in New York. She worked for the Associated Press, The Cleveland Play House, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and the World Press Review. She had a lifelong love of the theater.In her memory, donations may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, PO Box 9031, Pittsfield, MA. A memorial of her life will be celebrated at a later date
