Ruth Marjorie O'Connor

MIDDLETOWN, RI Ruth Marjorie Kirchner OConnor 73, of 50 Bay View Park, Middletown died on October 31, 2005 at Heatherwood Sub Acute and Nursing Center in Newport. She was the beloved wife of Joseph H. OConnor. They had been married for 54 years. Mrs. OConnor was born in New York City on August 27, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Ruth M. Kirchner. Mrs. O?Connor graduated from Rogers High School in 1950. She worked at Bayview Park, the family business for many years. She later started a second career as a cook at area day care centers, including Park Holm-Tonomy Hill Child Care Center, Twice as Nice Child Care at the YMCA and Child and Family Services. Many children enjoyed Grandma Ruths cooking over the years. She was devoted to her family. She was a loyal Red Sox fan and loved to read. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughters Beth OConnor of Newport, Mary Ellen Watkins and husband Edward of Warren, Pat Pritchard and husband Tim of Arlington, Tennessee, her son Jack OConnor and his wife Chyleene of Middletown. She is also survived by nine beloved grandchildren, Dan and Josh Jones, Carrie White, Christy, David and Jake Pritchard, and Meghan, Kelsey and Cate OConnor, and eight great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late John L. Kirchner, Jr. and Sara Simmons. Her funeral will be held Friday November 4, 2005 at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Lucy?s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, RI. Calling hours will be held Thursday, November 3, 2005 from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in her memory be made to the Newport County YMCA, 792 Valley Road Middletown, RI 02842.
