Newport, RI - Ruth S. Smith, 87, of 21 Pell St., Newport, formerly of Montclair, NJ died Sunday, November 14, 2004, at the Heatherwood Nursing Home, Newport, RI.She was the wife of George Smith, who died in 1975. Born in Bloomsfield, NJ, on January 30, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Elizabeth Oldham Stinn. Mrs. Smith graduated from the Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, NJ. She worked at the Walter Kiddie Co. for 25 years years as a secretary in the treasurer?s office. In New Jersey, she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Women of Irish Heritage, and the St. Matthew Guild. She moved to Newport in 1994 and became a member of the Edward King Senior Center and was involved with the Circle of Scholars at the Salve Regina University. In her spare time she was an avid artist. She is survived by a daughter Mary Lou Smith of Newport, RI, a brother Hubert Stinn of Kingman, AZ, and a sister Laverne Schroeder of Manahawkin, NJ. She was also the sister of the late Dorothy Nelson and Gladys Stinn.A graveside service will be held Friday, November 26 at 11:00AM in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 712 Grove Street, Upper Montclair, NJ 07043.
