Ruthann Vergara

Ruthann (Trojan) Vergara, 69, of Portsmouth, RI, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2013 at RI Hospital with her family at her side.She was the wife of Felipe "Fel" Vergara.Born in Newport, RI on June 26, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Henry B. and Ruth H. (O'Connell) Trojan.Ruthann was a 1962 graduate of Rogers High School and attended Mount Ida Junior College in Newton Center, MA, and Milgrim Secretarial School. In her youth, Ruthann was a well-known horsewoman throughout the New England area and held the State of Rhode Island Saddle Seat Championship for three years. She enjoyed traveling and Ballroom Dancing with her husband, her grandson's sporting events, and she loved her cats, Nicholas, Tucker and Christmas.In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Patrick Condry and his fiance Tammy Perry of Tiverton, RI; her daughter, Lissa J. Smith of Newport, RI; her grandson, Riley Davis Miller of Newport, RI; her two sisters, Linda H. Sheehan and her husband John of Portsmouth, RI and Karen E. Santa and her husband Gene of Middletown, RI; her two nephews, John T. Sheehan III and his wife Abi of Middletown, RI and Jeffrey M. Sheehan of Portsmouth, RI; three great-nephews and three great-nieces.Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 4-8 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.A celebration of her life service will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 10 am in the funeral home.Burial will follow in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown, RI.Memorial donations may be made to the Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
