Newport, RI - Samuel ?Lump? Alonzo Boyd, 48, of 66 Girard Avenue Newport, formerly of 9 Filmore Street, Newport, RI, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.He was the husband of Beverlee Young Boyd. Born in St. Augustine, FL on October 15, 1955, he was the son of Samuel Boyd Jr. of Middletown, RI, and Hazel Clark Boyd Pierce of Newport, RI. He was also the stepson of Brenda Antone Boyd of Middletown, and Thomas L. Pierce of Newport. Mr. Boyd worked for the City of Newport in the Water Department for 3 years. He also worked at Raytheon as an assembler from 1986 to 1991 and at Electric Boat as a welder from 1974 to 1977. Mr. Boyd was a referee for the Newport County Officiate Association. Besides his wife, parents, and step parents he is survived by his grandfather Richard Alonzo Clarke of Sarasota, FL, two sons Alonzo Boyd of Cranston, RI, and Renard Peeples of Newport, RI, three daughters Quanda Wiggins of North Hollywood, CA, and Samantha Wiggins of Pensacola, FL, and Dominique Wiggins of Pensacola, FL, two step daughters Tasha McCants and Tanya McCants both of Newport, RI, three brothers Michael D. Boyd and Paul Boyd both of Newport, RI, and Anthony Boyd of Korea, two sisters Deborah M. Boyd Newport, RI, and Cynthia A. Garris St. Augustine, FL, one granddaughter and seven step grandchildren, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. His funeral will be held on Friday, April 23, 2004, at 11:00 AM in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mt. Zion AME, Church Building Fund, Van Zandt Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
