Sara M. Weiss

Newport, RI - Sara M. Wheaton Weiss, 87, of 42 Walnut Street, Newport, RI, died at home Tuesday, August 23, 2011.For almost 65 years she and her husband Richard, enjoyed a fruitful life together. She will be missed by him, their son Richard of Twin Lakes, WI, her grandson Stephen of Girard, KS, her granddaughters Emma and Marcie of Twin Lakes, WI and great grandson Orin.Sara was for seventeen years the counselor for students with disabilities at Rhode Island College. In 2000 her work was recognized with the presentation of the Colleges Alumni Service Award. Saras involvement in civic affairs was both intensive and varied. She was one of the earliest members and officers of the Point Association, an organization dedicated to neighborhood improvement. Sara was also president of the Newport League of Women Voters. For many years she served on the Executive Committee of the Rhode Island Developmental Disabilities Council. In addition, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Meeting Street School.
