Scott Andrew Williams, 67, of Newport, RI, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away with his family by his side on December 15, 2024. He was the husband of Lisabeth (Hale) Williams for 21 years.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, he was the son of the late William and Bettini (Carnegie) Williams.
Scott lived a life full of adventure and passion, making unforgettable memories along the way. Scott's journey began in Australia, where he attended Newcastle Technical High School and Hobart Matriculation College in Tasmania. He later served an apprenticeship at Wellington Polytechnic in New Zealand, laying the foundation for a remarkable career in the yachting industry.
Scott was a proud member of the prestigious Melbourne Cricket Club; his father placed his name on the membership list the day he was born. At age 20, he was honored to join the club, reflecting his lifelong dedication and love for the sport.
A true sailor at heart, Scott sailed around the world multiple times, capturing the essence of freedom on the open water. He was a skilled Boat Captain, who even caught himself in the "perfect storm," and assisted with navigating the crew to safety. His expertise culminated in the rebuilding of the 12-meter Lionheart for the American Cup Jubilee in August of 2001 in Cowes, Isle of Wight, England. In the 1990s, Scott sailed to the United States, where he eventually met his soulmate, Lisabeth, in 1999. The couple married in 2003, forging a deep bond that centered around love and shared experiences.
Scott cherished every moment spent with his son, Andrew. Together they enjoyed outings to Sachuest Point, camping trips, fishing adventures, gardening, and visits to local farmer's markets, where Scott's passion for vegetable gardening truly shone. An exceptional cook and master of the barbecue, he filled his home with the delicious aromas of his culinary creations, bringing family and friends together around the table. Known as "Mr. Fix It," Scott had a unique talent for repairing and maintaining anything that came his way, embodying a spirit of resourcefulness and ingenuity.
Scott is survived by his wife Lisabeth and their son, Andrew Williams, of Newport, his sisters; Christine (Tony Gordon) Williams, of Australia, Kim (Karl Mezgailis) Williams, of Australia, and his nephews; Oskar and Hugo Mezgailis.
