Shirley Ann Prendergast

Portsmouth, RI - Shirley A. Carvalho Prendergast, 64, of 530 MiddleRoad, Portsmouth, RI, died Friday, August 4, 2006 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. Born in Fall River, MA, on May 16, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Motta Carvalho. She was the former wife of Fred Prendergast.Mrs. Prendergast was a bookkeeper for Lauders Construction in Portsmouth, Hogan and Stone Realty in Newport, and most recently at VanHof Nurseries. She was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church. She volunteered for Circle of Friends at St. Barnabas and also volunteered for Hospice of Bristol and Newport Counties. Shirley enjoyed needlework and sewing, but she enjoyed nothing more than traveling with the Golden Girls. She is survived by her children Dean M. and Margaret Cabral Prendergast of Portsmouth, RI, Deborah A. and Lance Sleeper of Portsmouth, RI, and Rayleen R. Prendergast of Portsmouth, RI, her grandchildren Kirby Sleeper, Jordan Sleeper, Sydney Sleeper, Aaron Prendergast and Nicholas Prendergast all of Portsmouth, RI. She was the mother of the late Sean Prendergast. Her funeral will be held on Monday, August 7, 2006, at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
