Middletown, RI - Shirley Crosby Clark, 72, of 8 North Drive, Middletown, died Friday, March 5, 2004 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI.She was the wife of Alan P. Clark to whom she was married for 47 years. Born in Ridgewood, NJ on May 15, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Beatrice Cottrell Crosby. Mrs. Clark graduated in 1949 from Ridgewood New Jersey High School and was also a 1953 graduate Skidmore College. She earned her masters degree in library science from the University of Rhode Island. Mrs. Clark worked as an assistant librarian at the Newport Public Library and later as head librarian at St. Georges School in Middletown and finished her career as librarian at the Portsmouth Abbey School in Portsmouth. She collected American pressed glass goblets as a hobby. Besides her husband she is survived by her daughter Linda Hammons of Fayetteville, NC, her son Ladd Clark of Malvern, PA, her daughter Laura Clark of Newport, RI, and her son Scot Clark of Middletown, RI, and six grandchildren.She was the sister of the late James E. Crosby Jr. Services are private. Donations in her memory may be made to the Middletown Public Library, 700West Main Road, Middletown, RI 02842. Arrangements are by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.
