Shirley E. (Barton) Viti

Shirley Evelyn (Barton) Viti, 88, of Farmington, CT, and lifelong Middletown, RI, resident died Sunday, October 4, 2015, in Hartford, CT. She was the wife of the late Theodore "Ted" R. Viti, Sr.Born on July 8, 1927 in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Gladys (Arnold) Barton. Mrs. Viti was a graduate of the Newport School of Nursing and worked for the Baptist Home which is now John Clarke Nursing Center. Shirley was a devoted beach goer starting her beach season in April. She enjoyed bowling, ceramics, reading and was a member of the knitting group called the Knit Wits. She was also a past member of Curves, the League of Woman Voters, and was an active bridge player at the Edward King Senior Center. A dedicated mother and grandmother, nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her family.She is survived by her children, Pamela and Nicholas M. Moffo of West Hartford, CT, and Dr. Theodore R. and Debra L. Viti, Jr. of Hoffman Estates, IL, her grandchildren, Nicholas M. Moffo, Jr. of Tolland, CT, Daniel V. and Amanda Moffo of West Hartford, CT and Taylor Marie Viti of Hoffman Estates, IL, her step grandsons, Justin T. and Melissa Aufmann of Hawthorne Woods, IL and Zachary J. Aufmann of Tampa, FL, and her great granddaughter Evelina V. Moffo.She was the sister of the late Robert Barton, Elizabeth McLaughlin and Beverly Barton.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015, from 4-7pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015, at 11am in the funeral home, followed by her burial in Newport Memorial Park, Howland Avenue, Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge, 769 Sachuest Point Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
