Portsmouth, - Shirley M. Martland Javelle, 88, of 844 Union Street, Portsmouth, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Louis E. Javelle. Born in Newport, RI on October 5, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Wallace C. and Rose Schneider Martland. Mrs. Javelle had worked as an assembler for the former GE Monowatt Plant in Newport retiring after 18 years. She had also worked in private service in homes in Newport and New York. Mrs. Javelle was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovahs Witness of Middletown. She was a Graduate of Rogers High School, Class of 1934. She was an avid beach-goer, going to Hazards Beach and Sandy Point Beach. She is survived by two sons Wallace Javelle and Peter A. Javelle both of Portsmouth, RI, her daughter Lois Midwood of Reading, MA, her brother William Martland of Portsmouth, RI, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Louis A. ?Sandy? Javelle.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 10:00AM in the Hambly Funeral Home ?Brick House?, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Marys Churchyard, East Main Road, Portsmouth.
