Shirley M. Sylvia

Portsmouth, RI -Shirley M. (Henrique) Sylvia, 84, peacefully entered Heaven's Gate surrounded by her loving family at her home on December 23, 2013. Mrs. Sylvia was the wife of the late Thomas A. Sylvia who died April 5, 2007. Shirley was born in Fall River, MA, on August 11, 1929, a daughter of the late Antone Henrique of Portugal and Grace Ellen Baker of Fall River. Shirley worked as a server in various restaurants on Aquidneck Island over many years. Mrs. Sylvia was a dedicated member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church for over fifty-five years and served as the Directoress of the Alter Guild, she also served on the Vestry and other committees for many years, giving her time and love to her church. She loved to travel with her family and friends whether it was on a cruise, or just enjoyed going to social events. She was also an active member of the Portsmouth Senior Citizens Center. She is survived by one daughter, JoAnn DerManouelian of Portsmouth, RI; two sons, David Farias and Thomas M. Sylvia both of Portsmouth, RI; and one brother, Richard A. Henrique of Marstons Mills, MA. She was also the sister of the late Robert A. Henrique. She was a very proud grandmother of several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Sylvia's funeral service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013, at 10:00 am, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2679 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Burial will be in the family lot in St. Paul's Churchyard. Calling hours will be held at the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, on Sunday, December 29, 2013, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
