Shirley Maynard

Portsmouth, RI - Shirley Maynard, of Middle Road, Portsmouth, passed away Friday, July 18, 2008 at Newport Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born to George Emma Asher Sonner on May 11, 1918 in Oaktown, Indiana.Shirley was the loving wife of the late Wayne Maynard. They were married for 55 years.Shirley led a very fulfilled life. During the Great Depression, she left home for a career as a beautician in Florida, then moving to Tappan, NY in 1941 where she was married. In later years she became a head chef at a private school. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends for her fabulous Christmas cookies. Shirley is survived by three daughters, Joan Schwartz of Marina Del Rey, CA, Janet Lea Maynard of Garden Grove CA and Marsha Bigbee of Portsmouth, RI. Six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all who know and loved her. Her funeral and burial will be private.
