Sr, Cecily McNulty FCJ, 91 of St. Philomena Convent, Portsmouth RI died Thursday , September 30, 2010 at Newport Hospital.Born Mary Alacoque McNulty in Providence RI on October 8, 1919 she was the first of three children of Mary Josephine Mahoney and Daniel Joseph McNulty. Her brother Daniel Joseph is now deceased and her sister Rita Claire McNulty Padien lives in Warwick RI with her husband John.Sr. Cecily became a postulant with the Sisters Faithful Companions of Jesus on February 2, 1939 in Broadstairs England. She began her novitiate in Belgium on July 16, 1939 and made first vows July 16, 1941 in Broadstairs, Kent, England where she also made final vows on July 29, 1947. Her formation time in England coincided with World War II , but she said they were happy years war or no war.Her life as a Faithful Companion of Jesus took her to many parts of the world - Belgium, England, United States, France, Turin, and even Australia, Her ministry too was varied. She was a much-loved teacher - especially in Grade 3 - 4. She was one of the first teachers at St. Philomena School in its early days and recently received the St. Philomena School Special Recognition Award for 2009.Sr. Cecily worked as a secretary in the Providence Diocesan Personnel office, and Community Affairs Office where she was involved in Prison Ministry and Neighborhood Friendly Visitor Program. She was school secretary at Bishop Keough High School and at St. Philomena School. There was hardly any job that Sr. Cecily was unable to tackle.She never lost her love of life and her interest in all that life has to offer. She will be greatly missed by the sisters in her religious community, her dear sister Claire and brother -in -law Jack, several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand niece and nephew and many friends.Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours at St. Philomena School Auditorium , Corys Lane, Portsmouth RI on Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 5 - 8 pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm.The funeral Mass will take place at St. Philomena School Auditorium on October 4, 2010 at 10:00 am .Burial will follow in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown, RI.
