Stephen Simmons

- Stephen Simmons, 87, of 5 Meikle Avenue Newport, died Saturday,August 31, 2002 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of Edith W. Covell Simmons of Newport. Born in Tiverton, RI on August 29, 1915, he was the son of the late John W. andEvelyn Gray Simmons.Mr. Simmons had worked for many years as a supply clerk at the Newport Naval Base retiring in 1973. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, he enjoyed playing cards, and going out to eat. He was an avid traveler. Besides his wife he leaves a son Stephen N. Simmons of Newport, RI, and three grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Joseph Simmons His funeral will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2002, at 10:00AM in St. John The Evangelist Church, 61 Poplar Street, Newport. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Tiverton.
