Steven Michael Osman

Steven Michael Osman, 41, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, May 27, 2013. Steven was the owner and chef of Bistro 524 in Tiverton, RI and his talents as well as his warm sense of humor will be missed. Steven was born July 3, 1972 in Dorchester, MA and was the son of Francis "Bill" and Claire (Finn) Osman of Portsmouth. He was also a longtime companion and co-owner of the restaurant with his life partner Karen DeLeo.Steven grew up in Portsmouth, but as a Navy family, his family did move to Guantanamo Bay Cuba and Charleston, SC for assignments. After graduation from Portsmouth High School, Steven began to follow through with a calling he had from a young age, and began formal training in Culinary Arts at Bristol Community College. His career took off right away and he began as a Sous Chef at the Greenhouse restaurant in Middletown, then he helped open the Glass Onion and later the Canfield House restaurants. His professional journey also brought him to Fieldstone's in Portsmouth, Billy Goode's in Newport, Di Parma in Seekonk and the Stone House in Little Compton, before finding the opportunity to own his own restaurant, Bistro 524 in Tiverton.Steven has Irish blood on both sides of his family, and was always proud of his heritage. He always put family first. Steven enjoyed golf, loved nature and exploring the outdoors. He was talented with his hands; able to renovate his parents' home, carve wooden figurines, or build a jewelry box. But Steven's greatest talents were his tender heart, his sense of humor, and his ability to make the people he loved feel incredibly special. His friendly manner, warm laugh and smile will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.Steven is survived by his parents Bill and Claire Osman of Portsmouth, his companion Karen DeLeo and her children Dannielle Parker, Matt and Mia DeLeo of Little Compton, a sister Nancy Hilliard and her husband Brian of Sterling, CT and two brothers, Robert Osman and his wife Jean of Dixmont, Maine and James Osman of Portsmouth, RI. He also leaves his nieces and nephews, Christopher and Allie Hilliard, and Katherine, Victoria, Sarah and Sean Osman.Steven was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Veronica Finn.
