Newport, RI - Susan I. Simmons Walsh, 77, of 53 Admiral Kalbfus Road, Newport, RI, died peacefully with her children at her side Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Raymond Joseph Walsh. Born in Newport, RI on May 18, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Christopher J. and Pauline Higgins Simmons.Mrs. Walsh was a graduate from Rogers High School in 1948 and the Katharine Gibbs School. After her schooling she began her career with the Law Offices of Moore, Virgadamo Lynch. She also worked for Salve Regina University, Nunes Realty, and Trinity Church. She was a volunteer for the AARP Tax Program at the Martin Luther King Center and also volunteered at the St. Josephs Soup Kitchen. She was a member of the St. Josephs Rosary and Altar Society and Little Rhody Thrummers. She is survived by her daughter Susan Walsh Bender and her husband David of Newport, RI, her son Raymond Joseph Walsh, Jr. of Arlington, MA, her daughter Karen Anne Ross and her husband Robert V. of Cumberland, RI, her brothers Christopher J. Simmons III of Portsmouth, RI and Daniel Simmons of Deltona, FL. She also leaves four grandchildren, Seth Ross and Norma Ross of Cumberland, RI, and John Bender and Kristina Bender of Newport. She is preceded in death by her sister Dorothy A. OSullivan.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at 9:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2008, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.
