Suzanne Marie Fitzsimmons

Suzanne Marie Fitzsimmons, 65, of 15 Kay Boulevard, Newport, died Feb. 27th at Newport Hospital, with the support of the compassionate care of the Staff of Turner 2.Born on Feb. 18, 1947 in Taunton, MA. she was the daughter of Joseph F. Fitzsimmons and Mary E. Livingston Fitzsimmons.She was the much loved and greatly respected longtime companion of Judith A. Byrnes of the same address. Suzanne was the loving Mother of two children, Bonnie Ann DeVoe of Maricopa AZ and the late Jennifer S. Grimm, infant daughter of Newport.Her friend and sister, Marilyn L. McDonald of Newport and Naples FL. and her nephew Joseph S. McDonald of Thousand Oaks, CA also survive her.She leaves behind the Fitzsimmons families of Taunton, MA and the extended Walker Family of Alder Point, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She also leaves behind ten nieces and nephews from the Byrnes Family of Bristol RI and the Bailey Family of Newport.Suzanne was a graduate of St. Catherines Academy, 1965, Salve Regina College, BSN 1969 and MA 1979. As a nurse and nurse educator, she worked at the VNS of Newport, 1972-74, the Newport Hospital School of Nursing, 1974-1986 and also at the health education department of Middletown High School, 1989-1993.She will be lovingly remembered by her many friends, near and far and old and new, who will dearly miss their meaningful bridge over troubled water conversations.A celebration of Suzannes life will be held on April 15, 2012 from 1:00pm - 3:30pm at the Morris Education Center in the Potter League for Animals 87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, RI 02842.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Channing Memorial Church, 135 Pelham St., Newport, or the Visiting Nurse Services/Hospice of Newport and Bristol Counties Hospice Care, 1184 East Main Rd., Portsmouth, RI 02871, or to a charity of your choice.
