Newport, - Sydney Maynard, 89, of 70 Harrison Avenue Newport, formerly of 125 Quaker Hill Lane, Portsmouth, died Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at Village House Newport, RI. He was the husband of Hilda M. Stone Maynard. Born in Brighton, England, on November 25, 1912, he was the son of the late Sydney and Elizabeth Batchelor Maynard.Mr. Maynard came to the United States in March of 1926. He was a 1930 graduate of Port Washington High School in Port Washington, New York. During World War II he worked at Fort Adams and then went to work as a diesel mechanic on the Newport Naval Base for 25 years retiring in 1973. He was also a starboard launch operator for J. P. Morgans Grand Yacht The Corsair in 1930. He was a member of the Internatinal Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #32 and the United Congregational Church in Middletown. Mr. Maynard enjoyed woodworking, furniture making and working on foreign cars. Besides his wife of 65 years he is survived by two daughters Linda Kelly of Portsmouth, RI, and Jacqueline Ferrarese of Kingston, MA, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at 11:00 AM in the United Congretional Church, Valley Road At Green End Avenue, Middletown. Burial will be private.
