She was the wife of the late Charles Ganem. Who died in 1994and the late John De Santis who died in 1944. Born in San Miguel, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel C. White and Mary Evangeline White. Mrs Ganem had work at the former U S Naval Torpedo Station from 1941-1943 . She then became a receptionist for Dr. Gerald Rogers in 1966-69 and then took a position as a secretary for the City of Newport working in serveral Departments until she retired from The Police Department in 1986. Mrs. Ganem the became a Tour Guide at the Newport Historical Societys Wanton Lymon Hazard Home. Sylvia and her late Husband Charles ?: Mahatma? Ganem volunteer their time at the James L. Maher Center . She also was a poll worker stationed at St. Georges Church during the State and National elections. She graduated from Rogers High School , Class of 1937 and was a member of the former ? Good Timers Club ? of Newport.. She is survived by Son Charles Frederick Ganem of Middletown, RI, a Son Robert Michael Ganem of Middletown, RI ;Daughter Nancy J. Harrington of Seekonk, MA, Granddaughters Tracey Becker ; Denice Mancieri : Nola Ganem ; and Grandson Jacob Ganem , Great Granddaughter Olivia Becker , Great Grandson Jonathan Becker , Great Granddaughter Katherine Mancieri, Great Grandson Harrison Mancieri , Sister Mary Bruni of Virginia Beach, VA, Sister Genevieve ?Vinna? Calbo Littleton, CO, .Her funeral will be held Friday, July 2, from the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway , Newport, RI to St. Joseph Church Broadway Newport were a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 09:00 AM . Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. Donations may be made in her memory to the Newport Historical Society Touro Street Newport, Rhode Island 02840.
