Sylvia Travers

Sylvia Paiva Travers, 74, of Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI, formerly of 54 Gould Street, Newport, RI, died Monday, December 25, 2006 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late George Travers. Born in New Bedford, MA on November 11, 1932.Mrs. Travers worked as a nurse?s aide for 20 years at Forest Farm Health Care Center and Heatherwood Health Care Center, retiring in 2001. She also worked at the former Chicken City, for over 10 years and at her father?s liquor store, Paivas Liquor in New Bedford, MA. Mrs. Travers was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church and also a member of the Rosary Sodality. She loved to do ceramics. She is survived by her step daughter Mary Alice Pine of Newport, RI, her grandchildren, Jennifer LaBonte of Portsmouth, RI and Joseph A. Pine III of Newport, RI, and her great grandchildren, Haley Lexey LaBonte of Portsmouth, RI. Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 29, 2006, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2006, from 4-9 in the Memorial Funeral Home.
