Portsmouth, RI - Teresa A. Beirola, 61, of, Portsmouth, RI, died Monday, September 5, 2011, at home in Portsmouth, RI, surrounded by family. Born in Newport, RI on September 16, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Elvira Botelho Flowers.Mrs. Beirola was a life long resident of Aquidneck Island. She was raised in Middletown, but lived most of her life in Common Fence Point in Portsmouth, RI. She was a graduate of St. Philomena High School, UMass Dartmouth, Salve Regina University and the Nurse/Teacher Program at Roger Williams University. She became a registered nurse and teacher. She was also a member of the Barrington Rhode Island Police Department in the 1980s, before returning to nursing in the 1990s.Mrs. Beirola was a proud member of the Portsmouth Concerned Citizens group and was instrumental in improving the towns Mosquito Control Program. She was also instrumental in developing the town tax deferral program for the town of Portsmouth She is survived by daughter Jennifer Beirola of Omaha, NE, brother Bill Flowers of Middletown, RI, her niece and nephew Steve and Susan, and her great nieces and nephews, Frank, Shaughn, Brian, Cora and Lauren, and her beloved dog Tumbles who was her faithful companion.
