Newport, RI - Teresa Viera, 96, of 70 Harrison Avenue, Newport, RI, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 after a brief illness at the Villages House Nursing Home.Born in Portsmouth RI on June 18, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Antone P. and Mary Cabral Viera.Ms. Viera loved her family and friends and enjoyed traveling, crafting, sewing and made her living making slipcovers and draperies. She continued her love of crocheting and knitting daily, until she became ill.She was preceded in death by her siblings. She is survived by her nephew James Viera and his wife Barbara, her great-nieces Lisa Lawson, Barbara Hatch, Cathryn Akerman, and their spouses and families, and her cousin Mary and her cousin and god-child Juliette Ross, both of Fall River, Ma, and many great-nieces and great- nephews. She also leaves behind her dear neighbors, the Harper family and her pal, young Ben Harper, whom she spoke of often and thoroughly enjoyed her many visits with him.She was a member of St Barnabas Church in Portsmouth, RI and was a member of the Democratic Womens Organization. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday September 28, 2009 at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth RI. Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Sunday September 27, 2009, from 4 to 7 pm in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Rd, Portsmouth R.I.
