Knoxville, - Thad M. Floyd, 70, of Knoxville, KY, formerly of Anson Drive, Portsmouth, died Saturday, October 12, 2002 in Knoxville, KY.He was the husband of Bettie Owens Floyd and the late Muriel Loftin Floyd. Born in Morgan County, AL, on May. 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Bernard and Gladys Floyd. Mr. Floyd had worked as an electronic technician at the Naval Underwater Systems Center, retiring in 1987, where he received several awards and letters of appreciation. He was instrumental in the interior design and layout of office building #1259 at Newick. He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday School and coached the youth basketball team. He had also served as a past officer of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter Tammy Stepp of Middletown, RI, a step son Brad Owens of AL, a step daughter Susan Collins of Knoxville, KY, a brother Kenneth Floyd of Hartselle, AL three sisters Melba Hancock of Decatur, AL, Joyce Blackburn of Tuskaloosa, AL, and Rebecca Gully of Hartselle, AL, four Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 18, at 1:00 PM in the First Presbyterian Church, Broadway And Everett, Newport. Burial will be private.
