Theresa Anne Gomer

Newport, RI - Theresa Anne (Cosgrove) Gomer, 54, of Newport, died Wednesday, August 27, 2014, surrounded by her family after a long, valiant battle with pancreatic cancer with dignity and grace and an old school Brooklyn attitude at the Newport Hospital.She was the wife of Jeffrey Gomer. Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 13, 1960, she was the daughter of Robert John Cosgrove and the late MaryJane (Tester) Cosgrove. Theresa was born in Brooklyn and proud to call it her home. She also lived in Bensonhurst and Bay Ridge. Theresa worked as a ward secretary at Coney Island Hospital and in the ER during September 11th. She was a proud graduate, receiving her teacher's degree later in life and very active as a parents advocate for children in schools. She moved to Newport 12 years ago and started work at the Newport Hospital the last 12 years as an ICU Ward Secretary. She was the life of the party, loved music and dancing. She was always strong, put family first no matter what. Theresa was known for her care for others that and her love always poured out of her. Besides her husband of 34 years, and her father, she is survived by her children, Eric Gomer of Brooklyn, NY, and Jessica Gomer of Newport, RI, her brothers James Cosgrove of Phoenix, AZ and John Cosgrove of Maplewood, NJ and her five grandchildren, Joshua, Jonathan, Joseph, Jocelyn and Christopher.
