Thomas A. Sylvia, 75, of Potomac Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of Shirley M. Henrique Sylvia. They had been married for 39 years.Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Myles C. and Anne McLynch Sylvia.Mr. Sylvia was a cook and bartender at area restaurants. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Paul?s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth and was an avid Red Sox fan, fisherman, golfer and loved to hunt with his beagles.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Thomas M. Sylvia of Portsmouth, RI; a step-son, David R. Farias of Portsmouth, RI; a step-daughter, Jo-ann DerManoulian of Jamestown, RI; two sisters, Judith Gagliardi of Fall River, MA and Carol Faria of Little Compton, RI; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Jean McInnis.A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 10 am in St. Paul?s Episcopal Church, 2679 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Visiting hours will be Friday, April 13, 2007 from 5-9 pm in St. Paul?s Episcopal Church, 2679 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul?s Episcopal Church Building and Grounds Fund, 2679 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871 or to the Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Middletown, RI 02842.
