Thomas F. Monroe, 69, of Wolcott Avenue, Middletown, died Sunday, September 23, 2012 surrounded by his loved ones at the Newport Hospital.He was the husband of Beatrice E. (Marques) Monroe of Middletown, RI.Born in Newport, RI on August 24, 1943, he was the son of Margaret Monroe of Newport, RI.Tom was a sheet metal mechanic at the Newport Naval Base before recently retiring. He was formerly employed as a shuttle bus driver at Salve Regina University. He was a graduate of Rogers High School where he was a member of the football team. Tom enjoyed bowling, playing cards, working in the yard and helping others in need. Tom was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.Besides his loving wife of 23 years, he is survived by his children, Kevin Monroe and Jason Monroe of Middletown, RI, Earl N. Kennedy III of Newport, RI, Patrick Kennedy of Tiverton, Brian Kennedy and Debbie Santos of Middletown, RI; his brother, Robert Monroe of Ocala, FL; his sister, Rose DulMaine of Tiverton, RI; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his cat, Mr. Poofy Pants Monroe.Funeral services will be private.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886 or to the Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
