Thomas H. Hoyle, 86, of Portsmouth, died Monday, April 21, 2014 peacefully in his home. He was the husband of Joan (Crawford) Hoyle. Born in Fall River, MA on April 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Thomas and Hilda (Brearley) Hoyle. Tom grew up on Smith Street in Fall River. After graduating from Durfee High School, he joined the United States Air Force. After his military service he worked as a lineman for National Grid Electric formerly Fall River Electric Light Company for 35 years, retiring in 1989. Tom was a loving family man. He and his family resided on Riverside Avenue in Somerset, MA for over 33 years. In his younger days he enjoyed racing pigeons and bowling. Tom was an avid Red Sox fan. He built his own summer home on the waterfront at Common Fence Point, Portsmouth and enjoyed continually making home improvements. He winterized the summer place, but spent winters with his wife in retirement in sunny, warm Desert Hot Springs, CA. Besides his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his children, Debra Poirier and her husband William, Thomas J. Hoyle of Covina, CA; Carol Calis and her husband Daniel, Jean Richardson and her husband Thomas of Somerset, MA; James Hoyle and his wife Glenna of Seekonk, MA, nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He was the brother of Joan Murphy of Somerset, MA. At the request of the family all services are private.Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
