Newport, RI - Thomas Henry Huhn, 86, of 9 Lees Wharf Newport, died Friday, November 19, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.He was the husband of the late Mary Huhn, to whom he was married for 52 years until her passing in 1991. Born in Lakewood, OH on May 7, 1918, he was the son of the late William and Helen Roush Huhn. Mr. Huhn loved sailing in Newport, and traversed the Intracoastal Waterway to Fort Lauderdale, Florida sixteen times. He loved gardens and flowers and his home at 9 Lees Wharf was a landmark for his Newport in Bloom efforts. He was an artist in wrought iron and authored books on family history on an annual basis. As an entrepreneur he owned a manufacturing firm that made aircraft parts during WWII, invented furniture manufacturing equipment, was CEO of a voting machine company and was a lifetime member of the ASME. He was an athlete and was active in politics his entire life. He befriended thousands of people from the powerful to the most needy. He was a shareholder in the Redwood Library and loved the Newport Sailing Center, he also wrote a pamphlet on George Washington in Newport, and the Newport Congregational Church. He is survived by three sons William Huhn of Guilford, CT, Stephen Huhn of Palo Alto, CA, and Wilson Huhn of Pepper Pike, OH, two daughters Susan Eustis of Lexington, MA, and Elisabeth Huhn of Atlanta, GA, fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.A Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 22, 2004, at 4:00 PM in Newport Congregational Church, 73 Pelham Street, Newport. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Newport Congregational Church, 73 Pelham Street, Newpot, RI 02840.
