Thomas S. Heald, 80, of Newport died Friday, October 23, 2015 at Forest Farm Health Care Center of Middletown, RI. Born on June 21, 1935 in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mae (Sherwood) Heald. Tom was the husband of the late Mary Gertrude (Sardinha) Heald, former husband of Joan Heald and husband of Patricia Galuska of Newport.A lifelong Newporter, Tom entered the US Air Force at 18 and served in the Korean War. Upon his return, he worked for several years as a laborer around the Island. Among some of his jobs, were the Newport Bridge, St. Barnabas Church, Gaudet School and he was very involved in the restoring of the Rose Island Lighthouse. He was an avid woodworker and gardener. Tom loved the Red Sox and was a huge fan of the New England Patriots. He loved to drive around the Ocean Drive with his dogs.He is survived by his children, Theresa Soares and her husband Andrew of Portsmouth, Michael Weed, Mary Robinson and her husband Steve of Middletown, Debbie Burgess of Virginia, Karen Harrington and her husband Bill of Middletown, Beverly Weed of Newport, and Stacy Santos of Portsmouth, his daughter-in-law Teresa Pavia-Weed of Newport, his grandchildren, Megan Reeder, Andrea Soares, Nichole Patton, Isaiah Robinson, Matthew Stephen Weed and Julia Santos and his great grandchildren, Alana, Leila and Jayden.He was the father of the late Mark Weed.At the request of the deceased, all services are private.Because of the wonderful care and compassion he received donations can be made to Forest Farm Health Care Center- Activity Fund, 201 Forest Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842; or because of his love for animals the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
