Vincent F. McMahon Sr. of Middletown, RI, greatly loved and devoted husband of Rita H. McMahon and proud father of seven, grandfather of ten, and great-grandfather of eight started a new journey May 28th, 2014 surrounded by the love of his family. He was two months shy of his 91st birthday. Born to the tune of Its 2 O'clock In The Morning at his parents home on July 28th, 1923 in New York City, Vincent was the third son of thirteen children born to Helen C. (nee Smith) and Frank A. McMahon. His sisters Julia and Frances survive him. He served in the Navy in W.W. II and after the war returned to New York City where he met his wife at Western Union. On roller skates, he carried messages between teletype operators. One operator, a striking redhead, put out her foot, tripped him, and he fell for her.Recalled to the Navy during the Korean War, he served for over 30 years. During that time, he was stationed on both coasts and was deployed to the Mediterranean and Japan. He was known for his integrity and for being one of the most popular men on board the shipa"the paymaster. He retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He then worked for the IRS in Providence, RI. He saw much of the world while in the Navy and continued to travel the world with his wife after retirement. Vincent was a man who loved people and numbers. He volunteered with many organizations, but is perhaps best known for his work with the AARP Tax-Aide program. He made the burden of filing on time less taxing for many people, some of whom used his services for over 20 years. He leaves his wife of 66 years and 9 months, Rita H. McMahon; daughters Eileen (Stephen) Leite of Naperville, IL, Peggy (David) Lewis of Herndon, VA, Susan (Jack) Tomlin of OFallon, MO, and Teresa McMahon (Barry Fishman) of Ann Arbor, MI; sons Thomas McMahon of Santa Maria, CA and Patrick McMahon (Kathlinda nGetchell) of Columbia, MD. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Vincent F. McMahon, Jr.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2014, from 3:00-5:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014, at 9:00am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Lucy's Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
