Viola Elizabeth West

Middletown, RI - Viola Elizabeth Kulasewski West, 95, of Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI, formerly of 507 Broadway, Newport, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI.She was the wife of the late John R. West. Born in West Warwick, RI on October 16, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Balbina Kulasewski.Viola attended Pembroke University and graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial College. She worked as an executive secretary for Bostitch/Textron for 30 years, retiring in 1976. After retiring she worked for Zal Newan as a secretary for several years. Viola was a communicant of Jesus Savior Church, enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and canasta, crossword puzzles and was an avid reader and listener of music. She is survived by two daughters Susan West Kurz of Jamestown, RI and Rae W. Nelson of Ocala, FL and two sons, John R. West of Middleburg, VA and George J. West of El Dorado Hills, CA, ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 16, 2009, at 9:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, in Jesus Savior Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, NewportBurial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, 202 Smithfield Avenue, Pawtucket.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2009, from 6-8, in the funeral home.
