Violet Lea Brown

Newport, - Violet Lea Christie Brown, 93, of 49 Malbone Road Newport, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late George Anthony Brown. Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, on July 7, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Charles Clifford and Ada B. Louise Frost Christie. Mrs. Brown came to Newport in August of 1920 and became a citizen of the United States in 1943. She enjoyed sewing for her family and working in her flower and vegetable garden. Mrs. Brown also enjoyed going to the senior ladies bowling in Middletown and worked at the poles for the Republican Party for many years. She graduated from Rogers High School in 1928. She was the longest member, 82 years, of United Baptist Church, formerly the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Brown served as a Church Deaconess for several years, on the Flower Committee, held office in the Womens Group and a sponsor of John Clarke Retirment Home. She is survived by three daughters Dorothy Jean Burkhardt of Newport, RI, Barbara Ann Sidok of Warren, RI, and Ada Louise Beebe of Newport, RI, fourteen grandchildren, thirty one great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren.She was the sister of the late George C. Christie. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2003, at 10:00AM, in United Baptist Church, 30 Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown. Donations in her memory may be made to the United Baptist Church, Kitchen Fund, Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840.
