Portsmouth, RI - Virginia A. Corsair Dutra, 83, of 315 Union Street Portsmouth, RI, died Sunday, April 11, 2004 at the home of her daughter in Tiverton, RI.She was the wife of the late Henry Guy Dutra. Born in Newport, RI on November 1, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Alan McPherson and Katherine Mary Mikut Corsair. Mrs. Dutra moved to Providence after the 1st World War. She attended Ruggles Street School, Candace Street School and Nathaniel Green Jr. High School in Providence. Mrs. Dutra moved back to Newport around 1933, and attended Mumford School and Rogers High School, graduating in 1939. She worked at the Peoples Credit Union on Thames Street for 10 years. Mrs. Dutra was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church. She was a member of the St. Barnabas Feast Committee, the Womens Guild along with being the treasurer for 2 terms, the 200 Club, the Portsmouth Garden Club and the Portsmouth Senior Center. Mrs. Dutra was an avid knitter, making childrens sweaters for the Newport Hospital, the Portsmouth Senior Center and St. Barnabas Church. She is survived by two daughters Jean D. Hickey of Alamogordo, NM, and Christine D. Gonsalves of Tiverton, RI, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.She was the sister of the late Dorothy Cosair. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at 9:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM, in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
