Virginia F. Ross, Ph.D.

Middletown, RI - Virginia F Ross, Ph.D., 83, of 303 Valley Road #145, Middletown, RI, died on October 1, 2011.Born in Queens, NY on November 9, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Mary Zaniewski Franklin. Virginia grew up in Queens, NY. She graduated from MIT with her PhD in Chemistry and Earth Sciences. From 1954 to 1957 she was a research associate in Earth Sciences at Harvard University.She retired to Middletown in 1995 and was active in volunteering at Salve Regina. Dr. Ross was known for her interest in the conservation of natural preserves, and in the 1970?s was President of the Boston Mycological Society.She is survived by her son Robert K Ross of Palm Springs, CA, a sister Claire Born of Hudson, NH, her brother Robert Franklin of North Carolina, and her former husband John Ross of Palo Alto, CA.She is preceded in death by her daughter Elizabeth Ross Carey.Services at this time are private.
