Virginia Gladding Kaull Bottomley NEWPORT, RI - Virginia Gladding Kaull Bottomley, 84, of 18 Mt. Vernon Street, Newport, RI, died Friday, January 27, 2006, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late George Samuel Bottomley Sr. A life long resident of Newport, and raised in the Point Section, she was born in New Bedford, MA, on December 17, 1921, and was the daughter of the late Edward Stevens and Hilda Campbell Kaull. Mrs. Bottomley had worked as an administrative assistant for over 30 years at the US Naval Base in the Personnel Department and at the Public Works Center in the Housing Office retiring in 1972. She had also worked at the former Naval Torpedo Station on Goat Island during WWII and after her retirement from the federal government at the Newport City Hall in the Canvassing Department. Most recently, she worked for the Department of Human Services for the State of Rhode Island until 2002. She was a member of Emmanuel Church and the Redwood Library. Mrs. Bottomley was a Graduate of Rogers High School, Class of 1939. She was an avid reader and lover of animals. Family and friends will remember her youthful spirit and heartfelt kindness. Virginia will be lovingly missed by her immediate and extended family and lifelong friends, near and far. She is survived by two sons George Samuel Bottomley Jr., DVM, PA-C, of Portsmouth, RI, and Edward S. K. Bottomley ASID of New Haven, CT. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2006, 11:00AM in St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private. Calling hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Robert Potter League For Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI, 02840. Arrangements are by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
