Virginia Sciortino MacMulkin, a long-time resident of Newport, died Thursday the 11th of June at the Grand Islander Center.Born in 1920 in Long Hill, CT, Virginia was the eighth of nine children born to Michelangelo and Rose (Scaduto) Sciortino. With her sister, Virginia co-owned and operated a hair salon for almost thirty years. She enjoyed cooking, music, and history, and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and the world. Her greatest interest was the care and attention she paid to family. Anyone who met her was charmed.She was predeceased by her husband and sweetheart, Donald MacMulkin, as well as her five brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Richard Carrubba, her granddaughters Jeannine Carrubba and Nicole Carrubba and her beloved great-granddaughter Elizabeth, who brought great joy to her in her later years.Virginia is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, whom she loved and nurtured throughout their childhoods. She remained devoted to them and their families her entire life. They in turn provided love and comfort to her until the end of her days.The family would like to thank the staff at All About Home Care, The Grand Islander Center, and the offices of Dr. Richard Morgera for their care and support.Calling hours will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, on Tuesday, June 16th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.Memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital,
