Bristol, - Virginia McGonigle Smith, 86, of Rhode Island Veterans Home Bristol, formerly of Dodge Street, Warwick, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at RI Veterans Home Bristol, RI.She was the wife of the late Leroy Smith. Born in Pawtucket, RI on July 5, 1917, she was the daughter of the late William and Evelina Massey McGonigle, and the Stepdaughter of the late Hormidas Barrier.Mrs. Smith graduted from high school in 1936 and was a member of the Rhode Island Honor Society. She served in the Army during World War II. Mrs. Smith worked at the VA in Providence, the Rhode Island Department of Labor, the IRS and at the Naval Air Station in Quonsett. She was a member of St. Francis Church and a life member of the AMVETS Post #3, the National Association of Internal Revenue Employees and of the Disabled American Vets, where she also volunteered for many years for them. She is survived by her sister Irene Lapointe of Portsmouth, RI, many nieces and nephews and the dear friend of Irene M. St. Laurent of Warwick, RI.She was the sister of the late Rita Morin and Dorilda Sweet Charpentier.A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at 11:00AM, in All Saints Church Cemetery, Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, RI.Donations in her memory may be made to the R.
