Newport, RI - Wallace E. Wally Simmons, Jr., 57, of 63 Dudley Ave, Newport, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010 after an extended illness. Born in Fall River, MA on Aug. 1, 1953, he was the son of. Shirley Simmons Meyers and her husband Jack of Tiverton and son of the late Wallace E. Simmons. Wally was the father of Meghan McCarthy of Stamford, CT.Wally served in the Army as an Artillery Surveyor after which he worked for General Electric in Newport and Middletown. He also worked in the marine industry as a yacht painter having included traveling to other countries such as Holland to work on the J Boat Endeavor. He was and avid sports and NASCAR fan. Besides his daughter and mother, Wally is survived by his brother Robert W. Simmons and his wife Dawn of Tiverton, RI, his half brother Michael and his wife Candice Simmons of Wickford, RI. He also leaves his nieces Nicole Simmons, Samantha Simmons, Kellie Simmons all of Tiverton, RI.Wally leaves behind two very exceptional special people in his life, Susan Smyth and Patricia Moore as well as the entire Moore family.He is also survived by his step mother Janet Simmons, of Newport, RI and his step brothers Gary Brockman and Ronald Brockman, of Florida, Steve Brockman of Oregon and step sisters Cindy Brockman, of Florida and Vicky Brockman, of Bristol, RI. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 4-6 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a prayer service at 6pm In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Service Hospice of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871
