Portsmouth, RI - Walter Holby Hetland, 89, of 20 Common Fence Blvd., Portsmouth, RI, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at home. He was the husband of the late Louise Goyette Hetland. Born in Newport, RI on April 19, 1917, he was the son of the late Michael and Carrie Marcusen Hetland.Mr. Hetland served in the United States Army, during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Common Fence Point Improvement Association. He is survived by his daughter Lorraine T. Moller of West Springfield, MA, nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Wallace Martland. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday morning, December 6, 2006, from 8-9:30am in the Connors Funeral Home. Donations in his memory may be made to the Common Fence Point Improvement Association, or to St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, 02871.
