Middletown, RI - Wendell ?Ken? Embleton, MSgt. USMC, Ret. 85, of 333 Green End Avenue Middletown, formerly of Rolling Green Apartments, Newport, RI and Forest Farm Assisted Living, Middletown, RI, died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI. He was the husband of Constance Agnes Thomas Embleton of Middletown. Born in Mapleton, ME on December 25, 1919, he was the son of the late Frederick Embleton and the late Marion MacIntyre Embleton. Mr. Embleton was a Master Sergeant with the US Marine Corps, serving during WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1939 and would later become a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Serving with the 1st Marine Division at Guadalcanal he contracted malaria and was sent home in 1944. He married Constance Thomas in Bristol, CT at St. Joseph Church on September 2, 1944. Wendell with Constance at his side would now continue to pursue his passion with his active duty in the Marine Corps that covered assignments including Okinawa, Japan and New Zealand. Ken was transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve as a Master Sergeant in 1963 after 22 years of active duty. After retirement he worked at the Newport Navy Base Navy Exchange and at One Stop Building Supply. Mr. Embleton was a member of the United Congregational Church, the Marine Corps League, the Colonel Higgins Post, the Pearl Harbor Survivors and the Fleet Reserve Branch #19. Besides his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his son Arthur C. Embleton, a granddaughter Dayle Embleton and a grandson Scott Embleton all of Wakefield, RI, and a brother, Donald Embleton of Mapleton, ME, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Pennel Embleton. His funeral will be held on Wednesday February 2, 2005, at 11:00am in Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway Newport, RI. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Donations may be made in his memory to the United Congregational Church, 524 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
