Portsmouth, RI - PO1 Willard G. Plumley, USN ret., 73, of 5 Donna Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River, MA. He was the husband of Mary Lou Rodrigues Plumley. Born in Meadow Creek, WV on October 31, 1936, he was the son of the late Earlis C. and Georgia Plumley.Mr. Plumley was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era retiring as Petty Officer 1st Class, after 20 years in 1974. During the 1950s and 1960s, Mr. Plumley served as a Naval Deep Sea Diver. Mr. Plumley also worked as a cook at Building 292 on the Newport Naval Base. He had attended the Chapel of Hope on the Newport Naval Base. Mr. Plumley was an avid gardener and woodworker. Besides his wife of 28 years, he is survived by two sons James Smith of Tampa, FL, and William Smith of Portsmouth, RI, three brothers Freddie McGee Plumley of Baltinore, MD, Marvin Buddy Plumley of Lockbridge, WV, and Thomas Plumley of Milton, WV, three sisters Elizabeth Goodson of Hinton, WV, Margaret Plumley of Meadow Creek, WV, and Saraettia Martin of Stanaford, WV, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Harold Plumley, Robert Plumley, Samuel Plumley, and Alice Sue Plumley.His funeral will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2010, at 4:00 pm Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Calling hours will be held Sunday, February 28, 2010, from 1-4 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.
