William A. Birtwistle

Portsmouth, RI - William A. Birtwistle, 90, of 192 Immoklee Drive, Portsmouth, died Monday, May 24, 2004 at Heatherwood Nursing And Subacute Center Newport, RI.He was the husband of the late Doris B. McLeanBirtwistle. Born in Providence, RI on December 24, 1913, he was the son of the late William and Agnes Gendron Birtwistle. Mr. Birtwistle worked for the New Haven-Hartford Line as a railroad engineer for over 40years. He was a 32nd degree Shriner of the Mt. Vernon Lodge. He is survived by his daughter Joan B. Kesson of Newport, RI, his brother Donald Birtwistle of Ludington, MI, his sister D. Shirley Birtwistle of Warwick, RI, his granddaughter Lynne A. Altvater of Londonderry, NH, his grandson William H. Kesson of Newport, RI, and five great grandchildren Jessica Kesson, Timothy Kesson and Tyler Kesson all of Newport, RI and Kristen Altvater and Michele Altvater both of Londonderry, NH.A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2004, at 11:00AM in St. Marys Churchyard, East Main Road, Portsmouth.
