William A. Gillett

William A. Gillett, 92, of Park Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died on Friday, March 2, 2012 at home. Born in Portsmouth, RI on July 7, 1919, he was the son of the late Albin and Martha Banks Gillett.Mr. Gillett was a long standing member of the Eureka Lodge of Portsmouth. A World War II veteran, he served in the US Army for 3 years. He worked most of his life for the United States Government in civilian capacity as a Radio Operator and Technician.He is survived by his sister, Alice Connor of Portsmouth, RI; his nephews, John Weishaupt and his wife Denise, James Weishaupt and his wife Hope and Ronald Weishaupt; and his niece, Jennifer Jabour and her husband Stephen, all of Michigan.He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Weishaupt and his nephew, Victor Carr. His funeral service will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11:00 am in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Burial will follow in Portsmouth Cemetery in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 from 10-11am in the funeral home just prior to the funeral service.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNS Hospice of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
