William Albert Martland

Portsmouth, RI - William Albert Martland, 87, of 844 Union Street Portsmouth, died Friday, November 19, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.He was the husband of the late Gloria Phillips Martland. Born in Newport, RI on May 16, 1917, he was the son of the late Wallace C. and Rose Schneider Martland. Mr. Martland had worked for various Contractors on Aquidneck Island as a carpenter retiring in 1987. He was a World War II Army Veteran, he had served in the 42nd Rainbow Division as a combat engineer in Europe, upon landing in southern france to the completion of the war he participated in the liberation of Dachau. Mr. Martland enjoyed fishing. He is survived by two nephews Wallace Javelle and Peter Javelle both of Portsmouth, RI, his niece Lois Midwood of Reading, MA, several great nephews and one great niece. Mr. Martland was the brother of the late Wallace Martland and Shirley Martland Javelle. His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2004 at 11:00 am in the Hambly Funeral Home, ?Brick House? 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Braman Cemetery in Newport.
