Middletown, RI - William C. Anthony, 86, of 106 Wyatt Road, Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 peacefully at home. He was the husband of the late Edna Louise Linley Anthony. Born in Newport, RI on September 1, 1920, he was the son of the late Joseph Morton and Frances Greene Anthony.Mr. Anthony was a descendent of Nathaniel Greene and a lifelong resident of Aquidneck Island. He was a graduate of Rogers High School and then entered the United States Navy. During World War II he served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. Mr. Anthony held various jobs early in his career. After his return from WWII, he began working for the telephone company where he was employed for 37 years, retiring in 1982. During his career he also served as an officer for IBEW and worked as an arbitrator for the New England region of the union. Mr. Anthony was a member of the Sons of the Revolution and the Telephone Pioneers. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling extensively. He is survived by his children, son William Herbert Anthony and his wife Cynthia of McLean, VA, Jack Anthony and his wife Deborah of Middletown, RI, and Christine Mulligan and her husband Robert of Coventry, RI, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Howard G. Anthony, Joseph M. Anthony, Warren C. Anthony, John H. Anthony, Paul C. Anthony, Marion Wood and Frances Watson. His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2007, at 10:00 am in Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. Burial will follow in St. Marys Churchyard in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 9, 2007 from 4-8 in the Memorial Funeral Home.
